Who We Are
The opportunities in the marine industry are varied and almost never-ending. Maine’s boat building history spans 400 years and still exists today as one of the most dynamic industries in the state. Boats built in Maine are sought after around the world and are known for the highest quality of craftsmanship, cutting edge technology and distinct, yet understated appearance. People bring their boats to Maine to have them serviced and maintained because of the talented and skilled laborers employed by the industry. Having a boat serviced in Maine instills boat owners with confidence and certainty that their boat will receive the highest level of service possible by workers who are professional and highly skilled.
The traditional standards of excellence in the marine industry are what form the foundation of the Marine Systems Training Center - an innovative and unique collaboration between industry leaders, training partners and civic and government leaders, all working in concert to establish a destination where workers in the marine, and related industries in Maine can come and receive further training. Indeed, the training Center aspires to be acknowledged for providing the highest quality training in marine systems in the State of Maine.
The Center was awarded initial start-up capital from a North Star Alliance grant, which is funded by the federal Department of Labor, in part, to strengthen Maine’s’ boatbuilding industries with much of the money going to training programs. The Marine Systems Training Center (MSTC) has been championed by collaboration between the boatbuilding industry and Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC). In recognition of the industry’s wide-reaching support for the MSTC, it is managed by the Maine Marine Trade Association (MMTA) in an innovative contractual agreement with EMDC. The MSTC is the first functioning component of the Many Flags/One Campus initiative.
Vision
The Marine Systems Training Center (MSTC) aspires to be acknowledged as the premier destination for providing the highest quality training in marine systems and related programs in the State of Maine. As a result, Maine’s worldwide reputation for excellence in building, refitting and servicing the highest quality sea-going vessels will be enhanced.
Mission
The Marine Systems Training Center will achieve its vision by:
